If you’re a Dexter fan, you can’t be without Dexter: The Fourth Season in your home theater library. And if you’ve never watched Dexter, this particular season is a fine one to get your feet wet with. This award nominated and award winning Showtime series is a viewer favorite bringing all-time high ratings to Showtime. In fact, the conclusion of the fourth season was viewed by 2.6 million, breaking Showtime records.
Since 2006 Dexter, a serial killer who works strictly by a code of “honor,” and an outwardly appearing normal guy, has been simultaneously helping his employer, the Miami-Dade Police Department track down killers and criminals, and doing some of his own killing while off the clock. He is a psychopath leading a “normal” life.
Each season has brought new challenges for Dexter Morgan, played by Michael C. Hall. There is always the challenge of being found out – plus his own questions about why he needs to kill. There are those who suspect him of being a psychopath and a murderer – and those who would murder him, given the chance.
In Dexter: The Fourth Season, Dexter is adjusting to his new life as a family man, his wife having given birth to a son. They now live in the suburbs and Dexter is working at his day job, trying to locate and stop the Trinity Killer, who is played by John Lithgow. Lithgow does an amazing job of his portrayal of the Trinity Killer, also known as a normal, church-going guy with a lot of secrets.
As the season progresses, Dexter discovers who the Trinity Killer is. And the people around Dexter begin to unravel some of the mystery surrounding his life. There is no let down to the action, mystery, plot twists and interesting occurrences in the fourth season of Dexter.
As the season unfolds, so do multiple story lines that in the finale are resolved (or are they?). In true Dexter fashion, the season finale leaves the viewer anxious to find out what is going to happen next, and wondering if the following season will lead to Dexter’s undoing.
Dexter has learned to juggle many new roles in his life and is still managing to act normal while plotting and carrying out his next kill in season four. You have to wonder, at what point it’s all going to implode on him.
While the theme of this popular cable series is a bit macabre, the show’s plot, sub-plots, and continuing story line is one that is ever attractive. Who isn’t fascinated by the mysterious ways that a psychopathic killer’s mind works? Especially one who is also a law enforcement agent? And a dedicated dad?
Don’t let Dexter: The Fourth Season pass you by if you’re a fan. Or, if you know someone who is a devoted Dexter watcher, get the fourth season for him or her as a gift. Available in DVD, this is a natural addition if you already have the first three seasons on your shelf, or an excellent way to introduce yourself to the world of Dexter.
